Vehicle Identification Number (VIN) checks are provided online for residents and businesses only. Before you fill out the information below, please determine if you live in the city limits by going to our Boundary Map and type in your address.

Residents can come to the Police Department located in the Justice Center (186 Surina Way, Greenwood IN 46143) to make payment, get a case number and inspection or you can complete an online VIN check. Once you submit the online VIN check, you will use your receipt number to make an online payment. A case number will be assigned upon receipt of payment. Then, an officer will be dispatched to your residence for the VIN check.
Non-Residents, who live outside of city limits, will have to come to the Police Department located in the Justice Center (186 Surina Way, Greenwood IN 46143) to make payment, get a case number and inspection.
Important reminder: Salvage and antique plates must be processed by the Indiana State Police.
Notary services are provided to residents with a valid State of Indiana ID or Drivers License and an address within city limits. To determine if you live within city limits, please go to our Boundary Map and type in your address.

Gun permits will be processed for Greenwood residents only. Fingerprinting for gun permits must be done through L-1 Enrollment Services.

The following applications, managed through the Greenwood Police Department, are provided to business owners with a valid State ID or Drivers License and a business address within the Greenwood city limits. Applications are fillable PDFs. Bring your partially completed (Social Security Number to be filled out separately), Drivers License, or ID Card, to the Greenwood Police Department, located in the Justice Center (186 Surina Way, Greenwood IN 46143) to complete the process.

The Greenwood Police Department believes strongly in positive community engagement. A well-informed citizenry provides a safer atmosphere for all. From school programs, to community events, to the ongoing Coffee With A Cop series, Greenwood police officers are committed to facilitating opportunities for active, impactful conversation.
The Greenwood Police Department will thoroughly investigate all allegations of employee misconduct. A complaint may be filed in person, by phone, by email, or by letter. If officers acted inappropriately, the complaint will help GPD recognize and ultimately rectify the wrong doing.
