Requirements

Entry Level Patrolman

To qualify for the position of Patrolman, applicants must meet the following requirements:
  • Must be at least 21 years of age but not older than 40 years of age (unless applicant is already a member of PERF)
  • Must not have any felony convictions
  • Must have a high school diploma or GED equivalent
  • Must not have a dishonorable discharge from the military
  • Must be able to meet the ILEA physical fitness EXIT standards
  • Must be a citizen of the United States

Lateral Transfer

To qualify as a lateral transfer, applicants must have already successfully completed the ILEA Tier 1 Basic Course OR successfully completed a POST certified law enforcement academy in another state (480 hours minimum), AND have at least one (1) year post academy of paid, fulltime law enforcement service.

Hiring Process

Applicants can expect to go through a series of phases during the hiring process. Each phase must be completed successfully in order to move on to the next.

  1. Pre-Application
  2. Physical Agility Test
    • Must pass ILEA Exit Standards
  3. Written Exam
  4. Oral Interview
  5. Background Investigation
    • Includes a Certified Voice Stress Analysis
  6. Medical and Psychological exam through PERF

  • On call pay of $35 per day
