The Lighted Trail

The Lighted Trail

Beginning December 8, 2024, take a stroll through the Amphitheater Park and take in the holiday lights! Get a festive selfie and maybe just make it a new holiday tradition to enjoy Parks! The lights will be on from DUSK till DAWN. Throughout the month there will be some ambiance entertainment from the stage as you stroll along the trail!
The trail will feature:
  • 85 Trees of lights
  • 18 Standing Figures of Various Sizes
  • 5 Arches
  • 12 Arch Candy Cane Tunnel
  • 2- 7ft Candy Canes
  • 3,600 Lights on the Bridge
  • 10 Light Poles
  • TOTALLING 42,840 Lights

Santa Claus is a big fan of Greenwood. Every year, the jolly gift-giver makes time for an appearance. Children 1 year and under are free. This years breakfast will be at the Greenwood Community Center.

With a name like Greenwood, our love for trees  comes quite naturally. And what better way to give back to our community and environment by giving away 1,000 trees on Arbor Day April 25, 2025! 

Trees will be available at the Greenwood City Center and Craig Park Shelter from 8:00 a.m. - 4:00 p.m. or until gone.

Trees to choose from will be:

Pecan ~ Redbud ~ River Birch ~ Black Cherry ~ Silver Maple

Every kids favorite vehicles gather together so your little ones can climb in and bring their toy trucks to life. Local departments and companies will pack the parking lot from 9 to noon. This year we will be in the NEW DPW (Department of Public Works) Parking lot, Accessed thru Craig Park!

Ever wish when you were a kid that you were allowed to play in the mud?? Well on May 30 from 10-11am or 12-1pm bring your littles ages 2-10 out to Freedom Park and play in the mud with us! Admission is Free! Monetary donations are welcomed to benefit the Parks Foundation. So come out, get messy and have some fun with us and the Greenwood Fire Department as we mud up some ground and dive in!

As Greenwood’s marquee community event, Freedom Festival draws more than 50,000 people to Craig Park every summer to celebrate the American Spirit. Indiana's best fireworks show is held on the last Saturday in June.

Third annual community campout on Saturday, September 13, 2025 located in Freedom Park. What a great way to kick off the Fall Season! We encourage you to be a part of this tradition at Freedom Park. The movie showing this year will be "Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Mutant Mayhem"
Price per campsite: $50.00 (max campers per site - 6) 1 tent per campsite location - 50 campsites available.

Monster Mash

Every Halloween, Greenwood trick or treaters don their costumes for a spooktacular celebration. Monster Mash highlights include trick or treating,  music, food, and much more.

Monster Mash is Friday, Oct. 18, 2024, at Craig Park.

The event is free and general public access will start at 6:00 pm and run until 8:30 pm. There will be Trick or Treating by the event lawn and a Hayride. Parking will be available at the corner of Meridian St. and Surina Way, as well the Craig Park parking lot off of Smith Valley.

Tickets are just $10 per person and first come, first serve. They will not be available the day of the event. VIP wristbands will be available for pickup at the Greenwood Fieldhouse the week of October 14th or at the "will call" table the day of the event. VIP wristbands get you Early admission to the event, One Free Food Voucher redeemable at any Food Vendor on-site at the event, Children 1 and up will need a ticket

Event Notification

If you are planning your own private event involving more than 50 people, you must notify the City of Greenwood. The first step is to complete an EVENT NOTIFICATION request. You will also need to complete a Noise Waiver.

A $25 Special Event Permit (or $5 Street Closure Permit) and Use Agreement will be necessary if:

  • The event is held on city property (parks and park services are excluded)
  • City services are required (Police escorts, road closures, barricades, etc.)

If you are hosting a running or walking event in Greenwood, you will need to use our standard waiver release for participants.
