Silver Sneakers

The Greenwood Community Center offers Silver Sneakers fitness classes. Class sizes are limited. Preregistration is not required.

Silver Sneakers Classic: This class is designed to increase strength, improve range of movement and support activities for daily living. Hand-held weights, elastic tubing with handles and a Silver Sneakers ball are offered for resistance.

When: Monday and Wednesday: 9 a.m.

Where: Greenwood Community Center

Fees: Free for Silver Sneakers members, $4 per class for all others

Participants: Adults

Chair Yoga/Circuit Training: This class offers standing, low-impact choreography alternating with standing, upper-body strength work, combined with a series of seated and standing yoga poses designed to increase flexibility.

When: Thursdays: 9 a.m.

Where: Greenwood Community Center

Fees: Free for Silver Sneakers members, $4 per class for all others

Personal Training

The Greenwood Community Center offers access to personal trainers, Devon Bossingham and Paul Hafen. Please contact Devon or Paul to discuss pricing and to make an appointment.

Complimentary Fitness Evaluations – Paul Hafen

Greenwood Parks & Recreation now offers free fitness evaluations at the Greenwood Community Center/Fieldhouse. Our certified personal trainer will measure body composition (percentage body fat), cardiovascular endurance (VO2 max), muscular strength (percentage 1RM) and/or resting metabolic rate (resting energy expenditure).

This information can be useful when developing a personal workout plan; however, you are under no obligation to utilize one of our personal trainers upon completion of the evaluation.

Dance Fitness

Burn calories in this upbeat dance exercise class! Class sizes are limited. Preregistration is not required.

When: Monday and Wednesday: 7 p.m. Thursday: 6 p.m.

Where: Greenwood Community Center

Fees: $5 per class; 10-punch pass available for Zumba/Dance Fitness: $35

Participants: Adults

BollyX Fitness

Inspired and driven by the heart-pumping, energetic rhythms of Bollywood, the film industry of India, this class with dynamic choreography and high-intensity interval training will help you burn up to 800 calories in one 50-minute session! Preregistration not required but encouraged.

When: Tuesday: 7 p.m.

Where: Greenwood Community Center

Fees: $5 per class; 10-punch pass available: $45

Single Class Registration

Step Interval

Step Interval is a combination cardio-and-strength workout using simple step patterns and free weights, focusing on upper-body muscular endurance. Class size is limited. Contact Becky Munger at 317-250-6618 to reserve your bench.

When: Monday and Wednesday: 5:45 p.m.

Yoga

Come experience a rejuvenating yoga session – beginner-level to masters, all shapes and sizes – and refresh your body and soul through relaxation, mindfulness, breathwork, strengthening, balance and flexibility. This detoxifying exercise will not only improve your physique, but also your mind, while developing tools to use in your busy everyday life. Class sizes are limited. Preregistration is not required. Please bring your yoga mat, props and water.

When: Sunday: 6:30 p.m.; Tuesday: 6 p.m.

Fees: $10 per class; five-punch pass available: $40

Yoga in the Park

Join a certified instructor from Studio YOU Yoga at the Greenwood Amphitheater as they teach this refreshing yoga class outdoors! Preregistration required.

When: Saturday: 10:00 a.m.

Where: Greenwood Amphitheater in Craig Park

Fees: $15 per class

Kung Fu

Kung Fu, a form of Chinese martial arts, is practiced for health, discipline and self-defense. It involves a workout for the whole body and helps with focus and balance. Veteran instructor, Gerald Laird, teaches the Five Animals of Shaolin version – the tiger, dragon, leopard, snake and crane.

Tai-Chi

Tai Chi is a gentle, total body form of exercise. It's an ancient Chinese tradition that involves a series of movements performed in a slow, graceful manner along with deep breathing. It helps relieve stress and anxiety and promotes flexibility and balance. It can be performed faster for a more aerobic workout.

Sensei Jovanni Martinez focuses on traditional Shotokan Karate, which uses isometric exercises in combination with footwork to develop concentration, coordination and awareness skills.

When: Tuesdays and Thursdays, 6:00 -7:00 p.m.
