Today, Greenwood Mayor Mark W. Myers delivered this year’s State of the City address to more than 300 business professionals, community members and residents. The annual event was hosted by Aspire Economic Development + Chamber Alliance and took place at the Greenwood Fieldhouse for the third year now.
“As we look ahead to 2025 and beyond, the road to continued success is paved by our shared dedication to growth, innovation, and unity.” said Greenwood Mayor Mark W. Myers. “Together, we will build a city that offers a high quality of life, fosters economic opportunity, and provides safety and security for all who live here.”
Today, Mayor Myers reinforced his commitment to providing sufficient funds for the city’s police and fire departments, allowing them to increase quality training and obtain the equipment to best serve residents.
“In 2025, we have funding for 82 full time police officers as well as 10 full time civilian employees,” said Mayor Myers. In addition to the advancements for the police department, the fire department will see various upcoming improvements. This year, 20 trainees will enter service in March which will bring the total of full-time firefighters to 82 full-time with plans to add 6 more within the year.
During his address, Myers also shared the growing success of Greenwood’s economy through various investments. “I am proud of our ability to invest in growth without burdening taxpayers. We have made our operations more efficient, utilized cost-effective financing and secured grants to support key initiatives.” Projects such as the Main Street Streetscape project and upcoming traffic improvements help to position Greenwood for success, while keeping the city’s tax rate low and stable.
While highlighting the impressive projects from 2024, Mayor Myers revealed multiple planning initiatives expected for this year. Such projects include continued infrastructure improvements, expanded partnership with local educational institutions to support aviation training for the Indy South Greenwood Airport, new retail and dining establishments, and additional single-family and apartment developments.
Community members can expect to see continued improvements throughout Greenwood. Mayor Myers announced the city, “remains committed to smart, responsible, and sustainable growth. Whether it’s attracting new businesses, improving our infrastructure or enhancing city services, we will continue to make decisions that ensure a prosperous future for all who call Greenwood home.”
In addition to the several public safety, infrastructure and economic development advancements coming in 2025, the City is focused on improving quality of life for residents. Greenwood Parks and Recreation Department will provide enhancements to facilities including updated fitness equipment. This past year, the Greenwood Sports Park opened which allowed the community to enjoy a second splash pad, a new playground and additional playing fields. The Department looks forward to expanded youth and adult sports programming at Greenwood’s newest amenity.
The City is dedicated to continuously building upon the four pillars of which Greenwood is built upon: Public Safety, Infrastructure, Economic Development and Quality of Life.
Confident in a prosperous 2025, Mayor Myers concludes his speech, “The future of Greenwood is bright, and it is an honor to work alongside each of you to make it even better.”
