The City of Greenwood’s 2025 operating budget was approved by the Common Council during the October 21 meeting. The budget showcases Mayor Myers’ commitment to the community’s needs while experiencing continued growth.
“The 2025 budget was created with the goal of bettering the City of Greenwood. The collaboration from department leaders highlights the city’s commitment and priorities for the coming year,” said Greenwood Mayor Mark W. Myers. “Residents will see this budget help with improvements in public safety, infrastructure, economic development and quality of life.”
The city’s tax rate will remain the same as 2024 and utilize a general obligation bond to make capital investments in the city to maintain and repair infrastructure. The property tax levy accounts for the city’s fast growth over the last three years compared to the rest of the state.
The Myers’ administration continues to prioritize public safety as the largest portion of the 2025 budget, which accounts for 34.7% of the budget. The funding will be used for personnel, operating supplies, repair and maintenance of equipment, training, and technology upgrades for both the police and fire departments.
The budget is structurally balanced and accounts for the city’s growth, as well as inflation. Additional allocations in the 2025 budget include roads and streets, planning and zoning, aviation, parks and recreation, and multiple other government functions.
City staff will also use the allocated dollars to support roadway repairs and maintenance, as well as ongoing projects aimed at enhancing economic development. In addition to funding normal operating costs, the 2025 budget includes new staff and equipment in some departments to support the city’s growth.
