City Departments

Greenwood's Aviation Department operates Indy South Greenwood Airport. The department is responsible for budget management, facility maintenance, daily operations and other projects and initiatives led by Greenwood's Board of Aviation Commissioners.

Code Enforcement Department

Greenwood's Code Enforcement Department is responsible for the inspection, investigation and reporting of code violations.

Community Development Services

This department is the integration of the Building, Engineering and Planning Divisions. All divisions work together to help property developers, business owners, contractors and citizens develop the Greenwood area.

Finance Department

The Greenwood Finance Department is committed to transparency in fiscal management, recording and reporting. The department oversees all city funds by creating, analyzing and managing annual budgets. The department provides payroll services to 230+ employees, manages debt obligations, and oversees all municipal financial transactions.

Fire Department

The Greenwood Fire Department (GFD) consists of seventy-three (73) full-time employees and sixteen (16) part-time employees. GFD protects a 25-square-mile response area that has a permanent resident population of more than 50,000.

Fleet Maintenance Department

Fleet maintenance technicians service and repair over two hundred vehicles and pieces of equipment owned by the City. The fleet maintenance director also works with City departments to acquire new capital equipment.

Human Resources Department

Greenwood Human Resources supports the city by promoting a work environment that is characterized by fair treatment of staff, open communications, personal accountability, trust and mutual respect. The department seeks and provides solutions to workplace issues that support and optimize the operating principles of our city and community.

Information Technology Department

The Information Technology Department directs and manages the development, deployment and ongoing operations of all data and telecom systems utilized by Greenwood city departments. The department is also involved with the automation and monitoring of building systems, such as security and HVAC, and operates a Help Desk application to provide support to city employees.

Legal Department

The Legal Department provides in-house legal services and representation to the Mayor, the city's executive departments, Greenwood Common Council, the Clerk's Office, and various city boards and commissions.

Parks and Recreation Department

The Parks & Recreation department is responsible for all public recreation in Greenwood.

Police Department

Mission: To serve and protect, and to always do so with professionalism, skill, character and honor. With nearly 60 officers, the Greenwood Police Department helps to ensure the safety and stability of our community.

Sanitation Department

Greenwood's sanitary sewer system maintains nearly 500 miles of existing pipe serving more than 24,000 residents, businesses, schools and other organizations in northern Johnson County. Sanitary sewer/waste management bills are sent to property owners monthly.

Stormwater Department

The Greenwood Stormwater Department manages the city’s stormwater utility, working to implement the Stormwater Management Program, protect critical infrastructure and improve the ecological health of our environment.

Street Department

The Greenwood Street Department's mission is to keep roadways safe, making travel throughout the city as convenient and pleasurable as possible. Areas of focus for the department include trash service, snow removal, streets and sidewalks, potholes, leaf and limb pickup and streetlight outages.

Waste Management Department

Greenwood provides weekly trash pickup and free, bi-weekly recycling to residents within city limits. On your designated pickup day, trash and recycling must be curbside by 7 a.m. For customer assistance, please contact Best Way Disposal, Greenwood’s partner for trash and recycling services.
