The Greenwood Common Council is a nine-person body of elected officials who serve four-year terms. The Council votes on laws included in city ordinances and maintains financial responsibility of the city’s budget.
The Greenwood City Court has jurisdiction over misdemeanors and infractions allegedly occurring anywhere in Johnson County, as well as alleged violations of Greenwood city ordinances. The Court operates full-time and hears 1,200-1,500 misdemeanors and 4,000-6,000 infractions and ordinances each year.
The Greenwood City Clerk is the keeper of the city’s official public records, including meeting agenda preparation, note documentation and preservation of all papers for the Common Council; note and record documentation for the City Court; and filing, safekeeping and digitizing municipal documents.
